In a world where games often find themselves running on platforms they weren't really meant for -- Doom on your iPod, Viva Piñata on your Xbox 360 -- it doesn't come as a terrible surprise when Crytek CEO Cevat Yerli declares, "Theoretically, anything could run anywhere." Speaking to the UK's PC Gamer Magazine (via CVG), Yerli asserted that his company's graphically splendorous PC shooter could eventually find its way to high-end consoles. "Crysis could be on the 360 or PS3," he said. "It requires optimisation, that's what we've always communicated."
However, technical feasibility doesn't guarantee a thing and confirmation of console ports remains elusive as ever. "What you would not do is make Crysis on PS3, 360 and PC for a single shipping date, because we would lose the quality focus," Yerli noted. "So I say, 'First PC version, then we'll see what happens.'" If Epic's Mark Rein is to be believed, what happens is that Crytek considers downscaled console versions of Crysis in order to capitalize on a market outside of cutting-edge PCs.

The 360 and PS3 can run games better than probably 75-90% of PC's out there being gamed on. They could probably handle the game on the lower settings. But they'd still have to do a ton of work to get the engine ported over. That'd be harder than the game, no?

Because Ben at a forum the other day said they didn't have enough space to recreate every single texture in the entire PGR4 game to add night races, and instead had to modify the textures to display 4 or more different daytime weather conditions.
Massive games, beautiful games, and great games that fit on DVD9 are absolutely no reason that we don't need high capacity discs. Sony was right to attribute well over $100 in cost to adding high capacity discs instead of putting that cost into RAM, processing power, HDD space, and/or cost savings to the gamer. Do not ever question Sony again. They are right no matter what.
We absolutely need to spend $140 or so extra to have high capacity discs. That money would not be better spent on RAM or anything else. Just look at how massive, beautiful, and totally awesome most blu-ray games are compared to DVD9. Not even close. Mass Effect is half the size of Heavenly in Gigs. Blu-ray FTW!
How'd I do Vid? Did I make you proud? ;)

This is not a game developed by EA;
* EA is the publisher
* Crytek is the developer

There is still an EA label. That means that EA is getting money from it. Therefore, it falls into my boycotting EA policy.

HOLD ON:
If we look past the amazing graphics, does Crysis really stand out from the generic shooter pack? Do we even know a single thing about this game besides it has great graphics? I dont.
If you do, then please elaborate, because all I hear about is the graphics, and have heard nothing about anything else.

Depending on Crytek's track record with Far Cry.
What makes it as unique is the supposedly sandbox approach to how the player must complete his objective: Snipe, stealth, just plain blow crap up, etc. Along with the unique Halo-ish Nanosuit the gamer is wearing that has some interesting abilities like speed, agility, strength and so on.

Posted this on Mark Rein's take on PC:
"What makes PC gaming special?
Democracy, thanks to the mod community support. Where you can create anything out of any games' SDK, from new weapons to a whole new game. The developers for PC games really encourage their players to do more than just playing.
And also, nude patches. Remember Tecmo's Dead Or Alive nude patch debacle? Further proof that consoles are less democratic than the PC. It gets worse with GTA's hot coffee.
Hell, there's no real democracy in console gaming these days, and having to hump your kill isn't one of them.
Real future of consoles? Open-source consoles. Surely you know what that means."
