Crysis Special Edition promises featurette, vignette and kitchenette sink
And we half expected it to include an exploding palm tree or some nanosuit cuff links. EA has announced the contents of Crysis Special Edition, a rather restrained affair compared to the delayed duffel bags and legendary helmets we've seen attached to other anticipated titles. For an extra $10 on top of your ordinary $50 Crysis, you'll get a steelbook box housing the game (nice of them to include it!) and a bonus disc featuring all manner of making-of featurettes, vignettes and fluffy materials. Go ahead and tick "art book" and "soundtrack" on your embossed, special edition checklist as well.
Finally, a "unique" vehicle (in-game, mind you) await those who purchase the Special Edition or pre-order either version of Crysis before November 16th. Hey, what's another $10 on top of that DirectX 10 graphics card?

Hmm, I wonder how that unique vehicle becomes unlocked? I can see the Special Ed including something extra on the install disk, but how does the install disk know you pre-ordered? A code perhaps? According to a can of beans, that will be up online on release day. But, the art does sound cool...

bak8807 @ Aug 20th 2007 7:16PM
Wait, it's on DVD and not the totally next-gen Blu-ray?
Matt B @ Aug 20th 2007 8:26PM
Probably multiple DVD's.
Neebs @ Aug 20th 2007 9:15PM
Blu-ray would limit the maximum install base to about a thousand or so gamers, and would be unnecessary.
Hey, sounds like...

Just like mediocre DVD releases, publishers push developers to make some sort of 'Limited, Collectors, or Special Edition' version of the game. This trend started at the beginning of the 'next-gen' era with the launch of the 360, and it seems to still be going strong 2 years after the release. Man, and I thought shelling out $10 extra bucks for a $70 copy of Majoras Mask was kind of a pain, now we have $130 Helmets, $70 action figures, and $70 'bonus' vehicle.

Didn't the whole special edition thing really get its start with Halo and the regular xbox before the next gen. Its just become an expectation in this gen....
Phour ZwanZig @ Aug 20th 2007 9:43PM
Yeah, what Intentless said..

no.. the special and limited edition thing has been going on for years.. but mostly in Japan, recently (say 2003ish or 2004ish) it caught on in the US.. although the so called "limited" variations usually just meant "bonus dvd with making of content" but they've been going on at least since the PSone Era in Japan

Whenever I see great headlines like this (he said, 'kitchenette,' not 'kitchen'-- I look up to see who the writer is.
I know I'm not giving enough love to other great writers on here, but that crazy Kietzman guy hits the nail on the head, a LOT.

On Amazon they have a Pic of the Vehicle and it says this:
Crysis Pre-order Offer
Go to war in an exclusive vehicle!
Pre-order Crysis now and you'll also receive the exclusive unlockable 'NK Amphibious APC'.
After the game ships pre-order customers will receive an e-mail from Amazon containing a redemption code and instructions for downloading the APC.
Pretty Sweet

It pissed me off when developers give the "special editions" an extra vehicle or level or whatever when it just should be in the damn game. GRRRR!!!
Tukulito-Zakayama @ Aug 21st 2007 11:27AM
this game will smoke the competition, but heck i need to save at least 1,000 to play this game with most of the setting on full, wish me luck....

JESUS CHRIST!
Some of your comments are really depressing, and so obviously come from the point of view of console gamers who haven't seen the gaming world outside the console market.
Halo and the Xbox don't deserve any credit for collector's editions for god's sake.
They've been around for PC games before the Xbox was born.
